My review of Mattifying Primers in Look Magazine

A couple of weeks ago, I reviewed four mattifying primers in Look magazine.

In case you missed it, here are my thoughts on four primers from Urban Decay, Benefit, Laura Mercier and Autograph at M&S.

Urban Decay: Quite a wet formula, I found this very easy to apply. It has a very soft fragrance which gave it a refreshing quality, and it absorbed quickly into my skin. I found the formula quite wet so I wouldn’t recommend using it over make-up; instead, I opted to use it underneath my foundation.

Autograph: The quickest to absorb, this Autograph primer was perhaps the lightest of the four. It had a slightly oily smell which I wasn’t terribly pleased by, and was a bit more dry than the others. A much lower price point than the others, this might be a good option for anyone wanting to experiment with primers.

Benefit: The smell of this primer was divine – citrus infusions gave it such an energising quality – but unfortunately I found the application quite difficult. Contained in a round pot, I felt that the pad provided was inconvenient to get a real grasp on the product. Opting to use my fingers, I found that the product was slightly dry. I would love to try a variation of this formula that was similar to the others in a squeezy-tube formula. As always with Benefit, the packaging was classic and girlie.

*WINNING PRIMER*

Laura Mercier: A much thicker formula, Laura Mercier’s primer had a very silky finish. Following advice from the Laura Mercier website, I used soft touches of it over my T-Zone during the day to absorb excess oil. It sat over my make-up well and definitely reduced my shine. The bottle size was fairly generous,  justifying it’s slightly higher price tag.
