Crystal Clear: An Introduction

A new brand discovery

A brand that seems to have popped up on a number of beauty websites recently is Crystal Clear. I tried a few pieces to see if they lived up to the hype...

Deep Cleanse Gel – £27.00

When Crystal Clear say Deep Cleanse, they really mean it. This gel is fairly light and smells delicious, like an orange Starburst. Ideal for use once you’ve removed make-up, this is rich enough to use in a small amount so you get a lot of use out of this 200ml bottle. After having massaged it into damp skin, your skin will feel very clean but also potentially quite tight so make sure you follow up with a hydrating moisturiser.

Illuminate Serum – £60.00

I must say that this isn’t of the texture of a normal serum; if you’re looking for a light formula to go under your moisturiser then you won’t find it here. The illuminate serum is a thick white formula (think of an average sun screen) but does absorb surprisingly quickly. The strong, citrus scent is lovely for giving that invigorated feeling and making your skin feel fresh, but I wouldn’t recommend using a moisturiser on top – this is thick enough to work it’s magic alone.

Defence Mask – £30.00

This is my favourite piece. A Parisian formula, this mask is perfect for giving your skin a really deep clean. Maybe you’ve neglected your skin for a few days or had a bit of a breakout around that time of the month; whatever the issue, this will have your skin feeling pure again. One thing I’d note is that the smell is very strong – it makes my eyes water – and almost smells like a solvent. However, once it has settled down the mask itself works well and is very easy to peel off which isn’t always the case with peeling masks of this nature.
