The new skincare range you need to know about...

Just over a week ago, I had a skincare overhaul. Although I am a firm fan of my Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish, they do say that after a while your skin gets used to a product and that it won't work as well. For my skincare reboot I've turned to the new Advanced Marine Biology range from La Prairie.

Here’s what I’ve been using…

Foaming Mousse Cleanser, £40 for 125ml

A creamy, rich cleanser, this is a dream to use. A small amount (think of the amount of toothpaste you’d use) works into a rich lather that soothes rather than suds. One of the ingredients is a coconut-derived cleansing agent and the texture is fairly similar to a pure coconut oil. I like to use this one of two ways. Sometimes, I work it into damp skin, taking the time to really massage it in, and then remove it with a hot cloth. Mostly, I apply it to damp skin and take my time removing it with a wet Clarisonic. Although both will give you really clean, pure finish, combining this with the Clarisonic will leave your skin unbelievably soft. With sea-sourced ingredients that derive from algae, the formula will clean without removing essential oils. One tiny hitch that I would note is this – do NOT get this in your eyes, it will sting like you wouldn’t believe! Use an eye make-up remover beforehand and then let your cleanser tackle any other make-up.

Mousse Cleanser

Tonic, £70 for 150ml

I don’t make a secret of the fact that I’m not hugely sold on toner (although I’ve come round to a couple including this Guerlain Super-Aqua Lotion recently) but this is a tonic that packs a punch. There are three phases to the tonic so be sure to shake it well and use straight away. These are normally incompatible – moments after you shake the bottle you will see them separate again – but the combination of all three will work wonders on your skin when used correctly. Upon application, this will feel sharp and tingly in a cooling, refreshing way. It is one of those products that leaves your skin feeling super clean, and really gives your complexion a boost – you’ll see the pinkness in your cheeks right away. If it’s been an early morning or you’re in need of a pre-party pick me up, this is the one for you. Although it sinks into the skin almost instantly, it leaves a slightly rich residue which is ideal for the likes of me with drier skin.

Toner

Day Cream SPF 20, £86 for 50ml

One of the nicest moisturisers I have ever used, this is my favourite of the three. I am one of those to use everything in excess and rarely adhere to the recommended amount of product, but one tiny pea-sized pump of this will cover your entire face. At £86 it isn’t cheap, but when considering how far a small amount goes it is well worth the investment. The formula is so rich but so light; in comparison to other moisturisers I’ve used, it has all of the benefits of a hydrating formula with none of the shine or oily residue. Although it is a day cream, I’ve been using it at night too and just mixing in some Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream for added overnight hydration.

Day Cream

With the changes in weather recently, I’ve been on the market for a regime that is lighter and fresher but still keeps me hydrated. This is the first range I’ve tried from La Prairie but I am so impressed and will be exploring more pieces. Have you tried any pieces that I should start with? Tweet me @MixedGemsUK and let me know.

Available from Harrods, Selfridges, select House of Fraser stores and online, this is the regime you need to know about to get your skin ready for the light, fresh make-up that comes with summer.

[…] This cult product isn’t all that Bioderma have to offer. Another piece that I’ve loved getting to grips with is their Atoderm Gentle Shower Gel. A similarly neutral formula, this is great for two-in-one face and body care. This super gentle formula works into a fairly creamy lather and will leave you feeling clean without adding any fragrance. If you prefer to emerge from the shower smelling fragranced then you may not want this, but if you need a quick and simple shower product (perhaps you want something gentle enough to share a bath with your baby or child?) then this will work for you. I like using it to remove the bulk of my make-up before getting really stuck in with my Clarisonic and skincare. […]
