Bourjois' first international bestseller

To celebrate their 150th anniversary, Bourjois have recreated a cult product from the 1800's - their Java Rice Powder, 'for youth, for beauty and for charm'.

Initially available in 4 shades, the powder was launched in 1879. Fans from around the world picked up the powder, which sold  2.5 million units in 1914! By the 1920s there were 11 shades to match the worldwide demand for this loose, shimmering powder. Now, Bourjois have brought it back with a modern twist to celebrate their 150th anniversary.

For me, Bourjois is the ultimate high-street brand for bringing premium quality products at a reasonable price point and this powder is no exception. A finely milled, shimmering dust, it is just the thing to create a glowing, dewy finish to the skin. Don’t be put off by the shimmer; your face won’t look shiny or glittery, instead it will just give your foundation a fresh finish.

The packaging is one of the things that made this stand out to me. The jade green rounded pot is topped with a Parisian inspired lid, complete with French copy and a Moulin Rouge style floral print. The light floral scent is very dated but in a lovely way, reminding you of when you used to steal a dusting of rouge from the dressing table of a relative.

If you like a fresh, dewy base, this one will be for you. Use it atop a BB Cream or foundation to seal everything in and give it an added gleam.

Bourjois Java Rice Powder is available from Boots at £9.99: www.boots.com.
