Cream Gel Shadow

I'll admit it; when it comes to cosmetics, I'm fussy. I like to invest in quality products because working long days (in beauty, I might add) means that I can't afford to be touching up every 5 minutes.

But one of my best buys of the autumn has turned out to be one of the cheapest – a selection of shades of Maybelline’s Color Tattoo gel shadow shades. A creamy gel formula, these are brilliant used alone or as a base to keep your eyeshadow in place.

Here’s a rundown of my two favourite shades…

On and On Bronze1. On and On Bronze. What a classic! This pound-coin shimmering gold works beautifully alone as a shadow or as a brightening base for any gold shade. I’ve been using mine underneath my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette to give each of the shades an extra pop. Don’t let the shimmer finish put you off. Unlike lots of bitty glittered cream shades, this one is true to colour in one firm sweep.

Taupe2. Permanent Taupe. A more unusual choice, this shade is matte in texture and works beautifully as a base for bolder colours. I use mine all over the lid to act as a holding base. Next, I take a fluffy brush and blend it softly into the contour of my eye. Now, I can pack a bolder shade on the lid (it works a treat with MAC Eye Shadow in Cranberry) and my smoky eye will fade into a neutral, taupe contour. Perfection.

I truly believe that these would work a treat on anyone. If you’re dubious about the lasting power of a cream then don’t be; my eyelids are eternally oily and these stay put on me without any creasing. At less than £5.00 a pop, my only issue is that I haven’t tried all of their shades yet.

A stand out high street buy, I can’t recommend these enough.
