What's new for spring

In the month of March we welcome the beginning of an optimistic new season: spring.

When it comes to your beauty bag, everything tends to get brighter and lighter in order to keep up with a whole new set of needs. Here’s a look at some of the newest British beauty launches – from sun-kissed blush to statement nails – to make your seasonal transition a stylish one.

This year we’re set to see an increase in variations on the latest skincare innovation, serum-in-oil. One of the first to hit the shelves is from The Body Shop, who have created a Vitamin E Serum-in-Oil, £12, as part of their hydrating range. Use before bed to unveil plump, fresh skin by morning, or apply throughout the evening in a “little and often” regime as recommended by Caroline Hirons. “If your skin takes it, keep applying it” she advised at the launch.

Meanwhile, REN have expanded their Rosa Centifolia range to include a new Hot Cloth Cleanser, £16. It removes every last inch of make-up and cleanses the skin in the gentle, calming nature that comes with everything REN. If cream formulas aren’t for you, try their No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm. This thick, oil based balm will melt away every trace of make-up and leave your skin feeling buffed and baby soft.

With rain and clouds on the menu for the foreseeable future, a few layers of gradual tan will be just the thing to perk up winter skin. The idea is to look glowing, not gaudy, so add a touch of Daniel Sandler’s new Watercolour Blush to brighten the complexion and compliment your tan. Available in two neon shades, tangerine Trip and hot pink Acid (£25 for two), the slightest wash to the apples of the cheeks will leave you looking fresh with a soft, dewy finish.

The weather may be dull but your lips needn’t follow suit; Illamasqua are back with three new lipsticks in a creamier formula, designed to drench the lips without compromising on pigmentation. Use alone for a full coverage or buff a little over your favourite lip balm for a soft, stained effect.

Bath and Body

As for unwinding, Aromatherapy Associates have got it covered. First up is their latest Deep Relax Balm, £18, a portable alternative to their iconic oil. When applied to pulse points, the rich balm exudes a potent blend of essential oils to soothe and relax the mind and body. Keep this to hand for long journeys or by your bed to aid a peaceful sleep.

Co-founder Geraldine Howard has also shared a new Inner Strength Bath & Shower Oil, £39, comprising an uplifting formula that she developed for herself as she struggled through treatment for cancer. She says, “I created this oil at a time when I needed to find my own inner strength”. A blend of clary sage, frankincense and cardamom will work in unison to help focus the mind, balance emotions and invigorate the body by stimulating circulation.

If you’re struggling to fit everything in this month, you can skip on your salon appointment now that Nails Inc have unveiled a line up of spring shades in their Gel Effect Polish formula, £14. Two coats will give you a plump, glossy finish fit to rival a Shellac or Gel manicure. Opt for Mayfair Lane, a nude pink, for a curt, groomed finish that won’t chip.

If colour is on your agenda, you’ll love Leighton Denny’s new International Collection, £11 per polish. Inspired by an eclectic mix of catwalk shows from Victoria Beckham to Tom Ford, he brings six new shades in his spring collection. Whether you’re drawn to the bright canary yellow or the hot coral, there’s a colour pop for everyone in his unbeatable, silky smooth formula.

Soft hair has never been easier to achieve thanks to Percy and Reed’s latest instalment: Hair’s Best Friend Super Soft Shampoo, £18. Cleanse twice to feel the benefits of this plant oil infused formula. Once will remove any dirt and product build up, and the second will allow time for the softening properties to penetrate the hair. Even the unruliest of curls will be easier to manage post treatment.

To suit both the cosy, rainy days in and the hopeful first glimpses of spring sun, Creed’s Love in White, £95, is the perfect fragrance for March. An unusual blend of soothing woods and uplifting citrus, it marries the seasons of winter and spring in a sweet gourmand blend. Described as a floral oriental, Love in White is “a gorgeous bouquet of white flowers combining the first blooms of spring”.
