Yves Saint Laurent Yvresse

Formerly known as Champagne

Someone paid me quite the compliment around three weeks ago. They bought me a fragrance which, in my opinion, was far too sophisticated for me. Cue my new summer must have - it's Yvresse EDT from Yves Saint Laurent.

Each morning when I dowse myself in it, I can’t help but feel like I’ve stolen it from someone else. It’s quite a mature scent and I feel as though I took a spritz from a dresser much more fabulous than my own. This is what I imagine a lady that lunches would wear, and maybe even a nana that lunches. It’s certainly older in nature than I would have picked for myself, but now that I have it I simply love it.

Yvresse Notes

The cream, cubed bottle of Yvresse (and, indeed, it’s sister YSL fragrances) comes complete with a list of notes. Emblazoned in gold are the following:

  • Nectarine
  • Litchi
  • Rose
  • Fleur de Violette
  • Patchouli

Originally this fragrance was called Champagne but the founders of champagne itself were furious and so a relaunch, Yvresse, took it’s place in 1993. I can completely see the parallels – Yvresse is light, fresh and very fun-loving – but for me it is much sweeter. The real hit comes from the Nectarine and Lychee, and dries down to leave the lingering Patchouli.

Buy for your mother, or for your aunt; this is such a ladylike, lovely scent.
