Best for blemishes

For every day of February, I'll be reviewing a different complexion product.

Day 15: bareMinerals Original SPF15 Mineral Foundation

Level of coverage

Adaptable depending on how many layers you apply, this can be sheer or anything up to a full coverage.

Finish

Despite being a mineral powder, this has a luminosity to it and dries to a matte satin finish.

Longevity

Without a doubt this will last the day.

Techniques that you might need to know

bareMinerals advocate a swish and tap application with this, wherein you swish the brush around the pot, tap the excess into the lid and then buff into the skin. I love using a Real Techniques Buffing Brush with this to really work it into the skin for a fuller coverage.

You’ll like this if…

– You have blemish prone skin

– You have sensitive skin and struggle to find something gentle enough

– You want a foundation that will help to treat your skin as well as offer coverage

Avoid if…

The only minor thing I would say for this is that given the nature of the formula (a loose powder) it isn’t the most handbag friendly. If you’re someone that does your make-up on the train in the morning this isn’t the most practical option, but if you do your make-up at your dresser each day then you’ll have no issues whatsoever.

Products that work well with this

The Prime Time primer that goes well with this is really lovely and helps the foundation to stay in place. I also find it to be a great base for your skin, helping to even everything out so that your foundation goes on evenly.

Everything else I need to tell you

I can’t bear anything chalky and for this reason I avoided trying this foundation for years. When I finally got round to it, I completely ate my words. Everyone loves bareMinerals, I’m yet to meet anyone that hasn’t got on well with it, but in particular women who struggle with their skin tell me how brilliant it is. A friend of mine has very sensitive skin and sometimes suffers with areas of irritation and redness when she tries new things, and this is her fail-safe, can’t go wrong base.

If you’re worried to try this because it’s a powder and you don’t want a matte finish, rest assured that this is glowing and light on the skin.

If I had to describe this foundation in one sentence…

A reliable, buildable coverage, this mineral powder is my go-to to calm a breakout and offer great coverage all in one.

bareMinerals Original SPF15 Mineral Foundation costs £26 and is available nationwide. If you’re new to bareMinerals I can’t recommend the starter kits enough. They give you everything that you need to get into a new beauty regime and give you a great insight into the wider product range.

How beautiful is this gold lid? It’s exclusive to Selfridges! You can get silver, gold or rose gold during promotional seasons while stocks last. They have them in store at the moment.
