Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Fluid Foundation Review

Full coverage dewy skin

For every day of February, I'll be reviewing a different complexion product.

Day 12: Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Fluid

Level of coverage

Absolutely full coverage with the illusion of light to medium coverage.

Finish

The finish is very dewy.

Longevity

This lasts well through the day but will definitely need to be powdered. Seal with a powder on first application and be prepared to blot down some shine as the day progresses.

Techniques that you might need to know

The Lightbulb comes complete with an applicator sponge that looks a bit like a snowman (two parts: a small head, a little waist, and a wider bottom). Use the smaller end to smooth out foundation you have already applied, for example blending around the eye area, and then the bottom end to pat onto the skin and build coverage, for example to cover redness around the cheeks.

You’ll like this if…

– You like a flawless finish

– You want coverage without a flat, matte finish

– You like a very groomed, polished finish

Avoid if…

Slightly more mature skin types may find this too heavy, equally anyone with especially oily skin.

Products that work well with this

Definitely use the sponge provided to work this into the skin, but on initial application I love to buff this out using the Real Techniques buffing brush. Avoid using a flat foundation brush with this as the coverage may be too heavy.

Everything else I need to tell you

The Lightbulb is one of my favourite full coverage foundations because it completely conceals any imperfections but still gives the skin a healthy glow. My only minor concern is that the shade range in this range isn’t the broadest and you may need to mix to find your perfect match.

Illamasqua Skin Base fans will get on well with this. There are two main differences between these foundations for me. Shu Uemura’s is easier to apply because it requires less buffing to achieve that amazing, flawless finish, but Illamasqua’s won’t need a powder touch up half way through the day like this one will.

If I had to describe this foundation in one sentence…

Completely full coverage with a healthy glow – the best of both worlds.

Shu Uemura Lightbulb Fluid Foundation costs £36.00 nationwide.
