House of Glamdolls: The Tour

Total make-up junkie heaven

You may know that I used to work for Illamasqua at head office many moons ago.

I made so many great friends there, lots of whom I am still in regular contact with, and learned so much. One of the people who taught me every day was David Horne, then head of product development.

If you’re in the make-up industry you’ll know all about David. Having worked as a make-up artist and teacher for over 20 years, he has left his mark on everybody. One of the best things about David is that he is absolutely fanatical about beauty, and tries every single product to find the best formulas from all over the world. And seeing as he’s so good at developing products, if he can’t find it, he’ll make it.

David and his partner in crime, another member of make-up royalty and fellow Illamasqua friend of mine, Chinyee, now work together to run the House of Glamdolls make-up school in London. Without a doubt, there is no finer place to learn the art of make-up.

When you visit House of Glamdolls it’s like falling down Alice’s rabbit hole and entering the wonderland of make-up past and present. Here’s a tour of the school which also feels like a trip down make-up memory lane, especially when you get to David’s cabinet of collectable make-up…

You can get in touch with David by visiting www.houseofglamdolls.com and on Instagram @HouseofGlamdolls and @YodaOfCosmetics.

Elizabeth Helen eyeliner, this is what David tells me is the best and blackest liner he has tried and ships it in all the way from the far east.

Chinyee is really creative with lego and has made loads of fixtures for the studio. This Artisan brush holder is made entirely from lego!

I couldn’t believe it when I found some pieces from the MAC Barbie collection. This is like the stuff of old make-up folklore!

And then I found these playing cards from MAC, each with creative visuals to support the Viva Glam campaign.

Sophia Loren for D&G here…
