Dewy Skin Essentials

The SS13 catwalks we've just seen were frequented by models with fresh, dewy skin. Unable to wait until next season, I've been experimenting with different highlighters to find the best tools to get an ethereal glow.

Whether you’re looking for an all over shimmer or something to pick out your features, there’s something for everyone below…

Best for a dewy base

If you want your glow to radiate from your complexion, try using a liquid highlighter. For something that primes as well as highlights, I love MAC’s Strobe Cream. If you’d like to mix it into your foundation, I’d recommend either Benefit’s High Beam or the Smashbox Highlighting Wand. Both are lovely but Benefit’s is slightly thicker in consistency, meaning that it works especially well if your foundation gives a thicker coverage.

Best for highlighting cheekbones

For a sculpted, glowing contour, try using a creamy highlighter along the cheekbone. Make-up Store do a great highlighter called Stardust which is white with pink pigmentation, or for something more pink in colour try Luna Twilight’s blushing cream in Mortal Glow.

Best for finishing touches

Make sure you don’t forget your browbones when applying highlighter. Benefit do a lovely pencil called High Brow which comes in two variations – regular High Brow for a matte highlight, or High Brow Glow for a luminous highlight. Then, after all make-up is applied, seal it in place with a finishing powder. There are few nicer than Paul & Joe’s Shimmering Pressed Powder which contains pink, pearl and jade green pigments.

Best for an all-over glow

Body highlighters with blue pigments can be beautiful for adding a healthy glow, especially when you’ve got a tan. There’s two that I alternate between depending on what consistency I’d like. For a creamy, matte finish, try St. Tropez’s Skin Illuminator in Violet. If I’d like a richer, more oily finish (especially nice on legs) I use Illamasqua’s Illumine Oil in Volt. In true Illamasqua style, it gives a glow that is entirely other-worldly.
