Le Rouge Givenchy – A Rich Velvet Red Lip

My personalised treat!

A couple of weeks ago I opened one of the most exciting parcels ever... a beautiful Givenchy lipstick, inscribed with my name, Rose.

My treat came to celebrate the launch of the new Le Rouge lipsticks from Givenchy, currently exclusive to Debenhams. The Le Rouge collection features 12 shades, all with a rich, velvet finish.

What’s so special about them?

As with all Givenchy lipsticks, the formula is smooth, smells delicious and comes in an array of what can only be described as expensive shades. My shade, Carmin Escarpin 306, is so timeless and classy. For me, lipstick is just one of those things that you can’t fake the quality of – you get what you pay for and when you’re wearing the likes of Givenchy, Chanel or Yves Saint Laurent, it is clear for all to see.

The pigmentation is superb; their claims that just one coat is enough for a full coverage are absolutely true. As for the velvet finish, it feels very soft on the lips without being chalky. The formula is also quite hydrating which is an essential when the weather is as gloomy as it has been recently (so much for spring).

One of the highlights of the Le Rouge collection is the packaging. A slick, leather tube encases the lipstick, designed to mirror the synonymous relationship of Givenchy fashion and leather and metal. Whether you’re a lipstick lover or just a Givenchy fanatic, this is one collection that you won’t want to miss.

So now there’s just one question… which shade is for you? Here are my 3 favourites:

  • 306 Carmin Escarpin: a classic, warm red, this is one of those shades that every make-up bag will love. Paired with my pale skin and blue eyes, it seems to make everything pop.
  • 303 Corail Decollete: this deep pink isn’t what it seems as there’s a a hint of warmth to it – picture the colours of a Sex on the Beach cocktail.
  • 307 Grenat Initie: let your lips do all of the talking with this deep plum shade. Pair this with nothing more than a flawless foundation and a lashing of mascara for a simple, sultry look.

If you want to experiment with a velvet lip, this should be the only item on your wishlist.

P.S Do you prefer a more subtle wash of colour? Try the Rouge Interdit range for a creamy, satin finish. My favourite is ‘Rose Desire’ – originally I’ll admit I was swayed by the name, but it has become one of those things that my sister and I fight over, ha ha!
