Harvey Nichols: A Week of Beauty

An exclusive gift with purchase worth over £130

Next week Harvey Nichols are launching the creme de la creme of free gifts. Think of all of those names that you've heard of in Vogue, Harper's or Tatler and never quite got round to trying; now, imagine them all in one limited edition make-up bag, yours to explore and get acquainted with. I used mine to indulge in a perfect week of beauty...

Take a ‘fresh start’ to a whole new level with some skin TLC in the morning. Begin by massaging away the last of the weekend’s grime with the Dermalogica Daily Mircofoliant. Next, make sure you give your skin a surge of moisture to encourage a healthy glow; Espa’s Replenishing Moisturiser offers 24-hour hydration.

You’ve caught up on all of your e-mails and the week is in flow… you’ve got no excuse not to behave and stick to your standard skincare regime this evening! After cleansing with your Elemis Tri Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash, take some time to really massage the Lancome Visionnaire serum into your skin. The pearly sheen will help to colour correct and by morning your complexion will be glowing. Don’t waste this on your neck because your neck doesn’t need such concentrated care. I always save serums for my face and use creams on my neck, but Clarins have caught on and created a gorgeous cream especially for the neck. Almost a mixture of cream and gel, this is deeply nourishing but won’t take all day to absorb so you can use it day or night.

Need an extra boost of confidence for that big meeting? Splash a little Serge Lutens onto your wrists. For a mid-week laugh (albeit one with a soft-skin side effect) perk yourself up with the Bliss Triple Oxygen Mask. A orange gel that glistens with reflective particles, once you’ve massaged this into your face it is like magic… all of a sudden you’re Father Christmas! Transforming almost instantly, this mask goes from gel to foam and leaves your skin feeling soft once rinsed with water.

If your Thursday has turned into a night for an impromptu glass of wine, you’ll want minimum effort when you come home. This may be the night that you delve into the Eve Lom cleanser but please be warned: you will probably want to purchase once you’ve tried it! A single use sachet that comes complete with a muslin cloth, this has been described by Vogue as ‘probably the best cleanser in the world’. Take time to deeply inhale the aromatic scent as you press the cloth to your skin. Not only will a few firm swipes remove every inch of make-up but it is even gentle enough for use around the eyes.

Catching a movie after work tonight? You’ll need to give your make-up some extra staying power, so let Laura Mercier help. Her primers are all immensely popular (her mattifying primer is brilliant on the t-zone) but to add an extra glow to your end-of-week face this Radiance Foundation Primer is ideal. Even if you’re only going for something as light as a BB cream you’ll find that this will help everything to stay put.

When you’re heading out, you can ditch the lashes because you’ve got arguably the best mascara of all time to hand – YSL’s immensely popular False Lash Effect. Everything about this mascara, from the smell to the finish, is just divine. Smudge a little bareMinerals Eye Shadow in and around your lash line to give a soft, smoky effect; the loose powder texture is ideal for subtle blending. Now for the important part: I don’t care how late you get home, but do NOT go to bed without taking it all off! Shu Uemura’s Cleansing Oil will remove every scrap of make-up, including eyes, and even if you’re too tired to follow up with your normal skincare regime the oily residue will give your skin some much needed post-cocktail hydration.

I don’t know about you, but Sunday is my favourite day of the week to get as many little jobs out of the way that I won’t have time to do during the week. Namely? Painting nails and toenails. The gold glitter in this Butter London Nail Colour is super fine, meaning all of the sparkle without the bumpy texture. Just two coats will give you a rich finish like the bottle, and the multi-tonal gold pigments have a real 3D effect.

Are you in need of a week of beauty? Here’s my advice. Spend your £110.00 on things that you needed anyway – stock up on Eve Lom, Burt’s Bees and La Prairie bathroom essentials – and consider this little beauty bag of tricks an extra-special treat. You might just find your new favourite cabinet essential.

This beautiful make-up bag (which has been designed by Fifi Lapin and is just as stylish as it is handy) is available from Tuesday 16th April in-store and online while stocks last. This isn’t an ordinary free gift with purchase. This is, quite simply, a compilation of the names that every beauty editor is using.
