Silver Iris and Gold Leather

A few weeks ago, my sister and I took to Liberty London to meet Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel, co-founders of Atelier Cologne. Visiting from Paris, the duo were in London to celebrate the launch of their latest Collection Métal.

Two colognes, Silver Iris for women and Gold Leather for men, were unveiled as the Atelier Cologne Autumn ’13 collection. In an unusual twist, precious raw materials have been blended into the formulas, “celebrating the lustrous beauty of rare elements”. As with all of their fragrances, each has a story to tell.

Silver Iris“A woman of such intimidating beauty and sparkling vitality gained the adoration of everyone around her.”

Silver Iris opens with fruity top notes like Tangerine and Blackcurrant, mixed with Chinese Pepper. Next, heart notes of Violet Leaves, Iris and Mimosa draw influence from places like Tuscany and Grasse. Finally, the cologne settles with base notes of Tonka Bean, Amber and Patchouli. The bottle itself is covered with silver.

Gold Leather: “A man of such great power and charisma he could have anything he asked.”

Gold Leather opens with a blend of Orange, Saffron and Rum. Heart notes vary from Plum to Eucalyptus and Davana. Finally, the fragrance settles with woody base notes like Cedarwood and Gaiac Wood, entwined with a strong Leather presence. Again, the bottle is coated in gold.

Both scents are very strong; these will be much more of a statement than your average fragrance. Being so unusual they will not be for everyone, however true fragrance lovers will certainly feel as though they have found something unlike any other when they discover the Collection Métal. I would also note that despite being tailored to lady and gentlemen, these scents are so distinctive that you would be able to mix and match at your leisure. Silver Iris, to me, could be a refreshing summer scent for either gender, whereas Gold Leather is the kind of fragrance for a winter evening tucked in by a warm, cosy fire.

If you’re looking to find an unusual cologne and stand out from the crowd, these will be for you. If, however, you want something unique without being too abstract, you may prefer to explore more of the Atelier Cologne brand. My stand-out favourite is their Orange Sanguine cologne.

The Collection Métal will launch in September 2013. Don’t take my word for it – try them yourself. You can find Atelier Cologne at Liberty, selected Selfridges or online at
