5 Ways to Weatherproof Your Hair

For the past few weeks I've been taking care of my hair with some new finds from Holland & Barrett, put together by their resident beauty expert, Lucy Pottinger.

Holland and Barrett Hair Food, £10.39 for 100 capsules
I’ve been taking one of these a day since I changed from blonde to light brown in order to keep my hair in good condition. So far it’s shiny and manageable and much more healthy than it normally would be post-dye. I keep mine by the tea bags in the kitchen so that I remember to take it each morning because I NEVER fully wake up without a cup of tea!

Dr Organic Manuka Honey Shampoo and Conditioner, £5.39 for each
For simple, family friendly hair-care, I’ve found these to be lovely. They’re light and easy on the hair with a subtle honey scent. Described as hydrating haircare, I’d say these are still gentle enough to use on finer hair types.

Perfectly Pure Coconut Oil, £14.99 for 453g
This is a super intense moisturising treatment for when your hair needs a real boost, but beware to go gently. Heat a tablespoon of solid oil until it goes runny by placing it in a bowl sat over a cup of hot water. Massage it into dampened hair ends and leave for no more than 10 minutes, washing thoroughly afterwards. Don’t get it anywhere near the roots because it won’t be easy to shift.  You’ll be left with hair that feels more hydrated and finishes much more smoothly than usual. The jar is gigantic so this will last you a very long time.

Miaflora Argan Oil, £12.99 for 59ml
Nothing works quite so well on my hair as argan oil. Naturally my hair is dry, curly and coarse and argan oil manages to help me to blow it into smooth waves or straight styles. The only catch is the scent; it’s nothing if not unpleasant. Overcome this (it’s an initial waft that doesn’t remain on the hair when dry) and you’ll be left with a game changing hair product.

Sea Kelp Tablets, £5.99 for 250 capsules
Not wanting to try these alongside my Hair Food, I’ve saved these for when my stash runs out. In the meantime my dad is taking 3 per day after meals and says that he feels as though everything is ticking along a bit more smoothly than normal. In terms of hair this will help to keep the thyroid balanced which will support the health of hair, but kelp is also great for keeping your metabolism going, too.

Next time you’re popping into Holland & Barrett, you might just find something even better for your hair than your health!
