Make-up, skincare and fragrance highlights

This week in the spotlight is one of my favourite brands - Estée Lauder. I've always loved Lauder but after hearing Elizabeth Hurley speak during their Breast Cancer Awareness campaign last October, I've really got a special place for them.

Here are 5 of the best things you could treat yourself or someone special to.

Youth Dew Eau de Parfum, from £16.50 for 15ml
When it comes to fragrance, you’re spoiled for choice at Lauder. Their summer ’13 scent, Modern Muse, has rarely left my handbag in more than 6 months. But one of the standout scents for me has to be Youth Dew. A heady concoction of spicy, woody and floral notes, it has been described as “one of the sexiest fragrances ever created”. If you have a special evening planned, this is va-va-voom in a bottle.

Youth Dew

Zodiac Powder Compact, £38.50
If you’re looking for a unique gift for someone special, this is one of the loveliest things that you can find. With 12 designs, each tailored to the signs of the Zodiac, this is a gold palette of translucent face powder. Despite being fairly small (think the size of a Rich Tea biscuit), it’s a heavy little thing. One part contains a refillable powder and the other a mirror. Each Zodiac design is embossed into a sleek, matte gold, and accented in an appropriate place with a gem. Your handbag will feel infinitely more glamorous just for housing it.

Lauder Scorpio Compact

Advanced Night Repair Sychronised Recovery Compex II, from £16.00 for 10ml
Serums are a staple in my regime. I have to admit I’m borderline obsessive when it comes to skincare, but if I’m home late and too tired for fussing, I simply use this post-cleanse. A light but rich formula, a couple of pumps will cover the entire face, absorbing quickly and leaving you with plump, glowing skin by morning. I’m prone to a few hormonal pimples along my jawline, and this works wonders around that time to minimise my breakout.

ANR Estee Lauder

Smoothing Cream Concealer, £18.00
This tiny little squeeze tube is so rich that it will last the long haul. Particularly great for neutralising any discolouration (think under-eye bags and redness around the nose), this is thin in texture but full in coverage. Use to create a completely flawless finish with your usual foundation, or mix with your favourite cream highlighter to create an illuminating contour shade for the cheekbones.

Smoothing Creme Concealer

Double Wear Foundation, £28.50
If you need a full coverage foundation for any reason, this is one of the best. Despite giving a fresh, glowing finish, it provides a high level of coverage over things like redness, pimples and freckles. Keep this in mind for occasions where you know you’ll be photographed a lot as it lasts really well, or it works brilliantly as the first step in a flawless, contoured look.

Double Wear Estee Lauder

There are few beauty brands who perform across the board; I tend to favour brands who specialise in one area, such as skincare or make-up. But Estée Lauder is one of the few that ticks every beauty need.
