A guide to choosing the perfect base

When it comes to make-up, I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for. But there's a little exception to that rule; Bourjois. For me, Bourjois make some of the best bases, from full coverage to soft and dewy. Here's a run through of which foundation does what...

Healthy Mix, £9.99
If you’re trying your first foundation from Bourjois, this is the one I’d recommend you start with. A universally flattering formula, this leaves you with a lovely silky finish and a slightly dewy look. The coverage is quite buildable so you can tailor to your preference, but however thick you go this it will still set with a glow.
TOP TIP! Heard so much about Chanel’s Vitalumiere but can’t quite afford it? This is the next best thing.

Healthy Mix Concealer, £7.99
Essentially a much thicker version of Healthy Mix, this is the one for combatting breakouts. For me, the best time to use this is after I’ve applied my foundation, making sure I give some extra coverage to the odd pimple. It also works beautifully as a brow highlighter if you take a shade brighter than you normally wear and buff it along the brow bone. The full coverage works well to smooth over any strays that you don’t have time to tweeze. Don’t use it under the eyes though, I’ve got something else in mind for those a little further down…

Healthy Mix Serum Gel, £10.99
For glowing girls who love that ‘fresh as a BB’ look, this will be your favourite. It’s a hydrating formula so it’s great for dry skins, and it lasts the long haul if you’ve got a big day ahead. Finish this with your favourite highlighter to get a healthy, radiant skin look. For me, it’s the best of the Bourjois bunch.

Healthy Mix Serum

123 Perfect, £10.99
On days when your skin is a little under the weather – perhaps tired, irritated or in need of a bit more coverage – 123 is your go-to. The colour correcting formula is designed to counteract any dullness, redness or fatigue in the skin, and give you a medium to full coverage along the way. In terms of freshness this isn’t one of the best options as it gives more of a velvet, matte finish. But if you need something heavy duty for a night out or for an event where you know you’ll be photographed a lot, this has got your name on it. No more de-tagging for you!

123 Foundation

123 Perfect CC Cream, £9.99
Unlike most BB Creams I’ve tried, this combines a light coverage with a velvet finish. Use on those days when you don’t quite want to go make-up free but don’t feel like wearing lots either; it sits gently on the skin, feels light and airy and gives a natural look when applied, and provides an SPF 15. Be sure to really buff this in for an even finish – I like applying mine with a Real Techniques Stippling Brush.

BourjoiS CC

123 Perfect CC Eye Cream, £7.99
I have to be so careful with under eye concealers; used heavily, they can sink into my fine lines and make everything worse. But this light, runny formula is really dense and so a tiny amount works really well to brighten any dullness around my eyes. Pat on gently with your little finger for a soft, blended finish, and for extra glow blend some along the cheekbones to contour the face. Be warned that this isn’t what you need on a pimple – frankly, it’s too gentle – but it is just what you need when you want to fake the amount of sleep you’ve had.

Correcting Concealer Stick, £7.99
For a multi-use concealer that can lighten your bags with one stroke and blot out a pimple in the other, this is your handbag essential. A clay-like creamy stick, I’d recommend getting two shades. Match to your skin for a standard concealer, and get another 2 shades darker to gently contour the skin. It blends really easily and works well to contour even smaller areas such as the bridge of the nose.
