Meet Me in Malibu

When it comes to fragrance, my girlie pleasure is anything from Juicy Couture.

This summer, they’ve reworked two of their most popular fragrances – Juicy Couture and Couture La La – to add a Malibu inspired theme and capitalise on their Los Angeles heritage.

As with all of their fragrances, these are light, sweet and flirty. Here’s the lowdown on the notes in each and whether they take the crowns of their predecessors…

Juicy Couture Malibu
If fruity fragrances are your thing, you’ll love this. Top notes are sweet and fresh, capturing a bounty of fruits – watermelon, tangerine, apple, passion fruit and black currant. Flowers come into play for the middle notes, blending summer blooms of wild rose, water lily and jasmine. Closing the fragrance, a musky finish of tiare blossom to add depth to a light, airy fragrance.

Juicy Couture Malibu

Is it better than Juicy Couture? I absolutely love it as a stand alone fragrance, but if I had to choose between the two I’d still opt for the original Juicy scent.

Couture La La Malibu
For summer, there’s nothing more poignant than this scent. Merging fresh flowers and succulent fruits, one spritz takes you back to your favourite holiday with cocktails on the beach. Top notes blend fruits like apple, mandarin and red currant with wet flower petals. A lovely freshness comes with the middle notes of orange blossom and white peony, like clean linen sheets. A heady mix of musks and woods closes the scent.

Couture La La Malbi

Does it top Couture La La? YES! Although I love Couture La La, the added hit of apple in the Malibu variation gives it some extra va-va-voom.

One thing that Juicy Couture always do really well is their bottles, and these two are no exception. In a slightly different shape to the last few Juicy fragrances, each bottle is stood in a tall, thin case, topped with an oversized lucite heart charm. They’re plain glass emblazoned with LA inspired palm trees, and each looks feminine and summery.

What really screams out to me about these scents is that they’re both so much fun. If you’ve got a girl’s weekend, a beach holiday or a summer garden party on the agenda, you’ll want a little Malibu.

Juicy Couture Malibu and Couture La La Malibu start at £34 for 40ml and are available from Boots (40ml only), Selfridge’s, Debenhams, The Perfume Shop and The Fragrance Shop.
