A day and night skincare blend

For the past few weeks, I've been using a day and night duo from Kiehl's in my regime and the results have been quick to show.

In the morning, post-cleanse, I’m using the Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate. This thick white formula is atypical of a serum; it feels almost like a primer with it’s rich, velvety texture. But under make-up it is a dream, helping to smooth and plump out any roughness. Although wrinkles aren’t a concern of mine as such (I’m 24) it definitely delivers on claims to correct a rough texture and brighten dullness.

The key ingredient in the formula is Vitamin C, a natural antioxidant. This is to ensure maximum protection against free radicals like UV damage and pollution – namely, things we’re likely to be exposed to during the day. Added Glycerin helps to retain moisture throughout the day so this is going to come in extra handy during colder months.

Compared to other serums? This one ticks all of the skincare boxes but doubles up as a brilliant underlay for make-up. I love it.

Now for the evening. My skin is naturally quite dry so I always make sure I use oils after my serum. I’ve tried many different oils but this blend is truly one of the best I’ve tried to date – Kiehls’ Midnight Recovery Complex. A heady concoction of botanical extracts and essential oils, what sets this apart is that it gives the deep hydration of an oil but doesn’t break me out. If you’re oily or dry I’d get a sample from your nearest counter urgently.

There are a few key ingredients that give this it’s kick. Being a night time elixir, the Lavender Oil is a welcome addition, soothing the skin and setting you off to a peaceful night. Evening Primrose is rich in essential fatty acids (Omega 6) and thus a great ingredient for healthy, glowing skin, and Squalene works to soften the skin.

A little while ago, Caroline Hirons told me what she does with oils. When she gets in after a day at work, the make-up is off, face is cleansed, toned, and serum is applied. Then she takes her oil, and applies as much as will absorb throughout the evening. “If your skin takes it,” she advised me, “keep applying it.” I’ve tried this with the Midnight Recovery Complex and the results by morning speak for themselves. Skin is plump, clear and radiant and any oily residue obsolete.

Do you like a glass of wine or two? This is your new must-have. Massage it in before bed so that by morning you might still feel as though you’ve had that Pinot but you certainly won’t look that way…

Although they’re both brilliant the real star for me is the Midnight Recovery Complex. I’ve noticed hydrated, radiant skin in a short few weeks and I can’t imagine not using it now.
