The Z – Z of Zelens

Including the best skincare product I have ever used. EVER.

One of the things I love about my beauty regime is that I mix and match brands. I truly feel that the key to a successful beauty regime is picking out the strengths from each brand and keeping them to form one super-regime.

But as time has gone on, there’s one brand that has infiltrated my skincare regime to the point where it is the most prominent of all. It’s Zelens.

In case you haven’t heard of Zelens, it was founded by Dr. Marko Lens, a leading authority on skincare and sun damage, and the entire range is plant based. A few months ago I met him for the first time when he unveiled the Daily Defence SPF 30 (you can see more about that here) and his knowledge astounded me. Since then, I have tried to read as much as I can and use as much Zelens as I could and I’ve seen an astounding difference in the luminosity and clarity of my skin. Considering the technology and sheer expertise behind the brand, I feel that the price points are very appealing too.

Though I mix and match on the daily, here are the pieces that I use most frequently, including the product which has come to be my favourite skincare item of all time.

Radiance Luminous Facial Cleanser, £40
Quite unlike any other cleanser I own, this is super gentle but still manages to get the job done. Although Zelens would advise that you can use this to remove your make-up, I prefer to use something like an oil or a balm to take my face off, then use this as my second cleanse to really polish the skin. The formula is like a lotion; very rich and good for a hydrating cleanse. It does what it sets out to do and has left my skin with more luminosity over time.

PHA+ Bio-Peel Resurfacing Facial Pads, £65
These are simply brilliant. You may know that my favourite lady in beauty is Newby Hands, Beauty Director at Large at Harper’s Bazaar and Editorial Director at Newby mentioned these pads in Bazaar last month and I knew I had to have them. These little mesh pads are soaked in a gently exfoliating formula. You can feel the difference from first application, and over time you will find that products that you’ve used for years are somehow able to work more effectively. I can’t afford to use these twice per day so I use Pixi’s Glow Tonic as my everyday exfoliating toner and hit the pads a couple of times a week for a more thorough exfoliation.

Z-22 Absolute Facial Oil, £65
A blend of 22 plant oils, this cocktail is something else. One tiny pump, perhaps equating to the size of half a pea, is enough to nourish and cover the entire face. My combination skin is producing less and less oil as I go in with this, it is light enough to use day and night, and a top tip I learned from Dr. Lens is that it works a treat when mixed into your favourite foundation. Caroline Hirons once told me that as long as your skin will take oil you can keep applying it little and often. When I get home I cleanse, tone, apply serum(s), and then keep adding this little and often as and when I need it through the evening. This is the addition to my regime that plumps my skin.

Z Matrix Energy & Moisture Infusion, £85
A bold statement and one that I do not make lightly – Z Matrix is the very best product I have ever used on my skin. I truly feel as though it’s made for me. A gel texture designed to combat fatigued skin, this promises an Energy and Moisture infusion and it delivers from the very moment of your first application. Atop the given – a surge of moisture and a perk up to my perpetually tired skin – my skin feels thicker since I’ve started using this. As an ongoing treatment it has worked wonders, but what really makes this stand out is that it also gives that quick-fix when I need it to. All of the Zelens creams are brilliant, but for me this is the one that delivers above all others. Keep it in the fridge for a cooling, soothing end to the day.

Have you tried anything from Zelens? Tweet me @MixedGemsBeauty and let me know. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the range.
