The 50 lippies in the bottom of my handbag…

Favourite Summer Lips

Every week I empty my handbag and pack it again for the week ahead. What never fails to amaze me is that in the course of a mere seven days I manage to amass sometimes as many as 14 lip items in the bottom of even the tiniest of bags. What can I say? By the time I've covered lipstick, lipgloss and balms, it all seems to add up.

This month there are a few particular shades that I just can’t seem to get rid of. Here’s the lowdown on what’s been cluttering up my new (hot pink Michael Kors) handbag…

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain, £7.99
Perhaps one of my favourite launches this year, I simply LOVE these lip stains from Revlon. They’re like a jelly in texture, meaning that they give a really glossy sheen but they aren’t sticky at all. Available in a number of quite hot shades, they really set off a tan and work especially well on their own. I’m rotating a dark purple and peach alongside a hot pink that just seems to go with everything. They seem to keep having offers on these in Boots and Superdrug so I’d shop around before you purchase. OBSESSED, I am.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets, £8.99
Now I gushed about these a little while back, but I feel the need to mention them again because I simply can’t shake them off. Here’s the deal. Buff a lip pencil all over your lip, then layer this on top, and you won’t have to touch your lips all day. It’s insane. What these are also brilliant for is a commuter like me because they don’t move. Come wind, rain or shine, you’ll arrive at work with lips as perfect as the moment you left the house. They’re matte without looking dry and that is a very hard balance to strike.

Rouge Edition Velvet

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipsticks, £24
I absolutely love these and have done since they launched. These offer a really strong pigment with full coverage and a lovely creamy finish. My beloved Insatiable Ivory is almost worn to the bottom. Most of the time I wear a really classic chocolate smoky eye with lots of black and browns, so this is the perfect nude to finish the look without overpowering my make-up. For a pop of colour I love the bright orange Daring which was a Selfridges Beauty Project exclusive shade, and in the recent unveil of six new shades the total stand out is Eccentric. A rosy peach, I can’t imagine anyone that this won’t look flattering on. Erin, the Lauder counter manager at Selfridges Birmingham, has been wearing hers all week and I’ve seen 3 women saying “what have you got on? I’ll have one of those.”

Pure Color ENVY

Tom Ford Lipstick, £37
I’m very, very new to Tom Ford lipsticks, namely because I’ve never quite been able to justify the price, but I can hand on heart say that the extra investment has opened a door to a world of compliments. This morning was my day off but I was heading into work for a root touch up. I had simply some foundation, blush, highlighter, mascara and a pop of True Coral lipstick from Tom Ford, and my colleagues all asked me what on earth the fancy occasion was. I must have had 75% LESS make-up on than usual, but this vivid coral made me look as though I was dolled to the nines. This is my total hero shade for brightening blue eyes and fair skin, but when I’m not so peachy I opt for Cherry Lush for the ultimate bombshell red. Why are they different? Aside from the lavish packaging, I truly feel that that there is something very expensive looking about a Tom Ford lipstick. You can simply tell them apart from any other.

True Coral

YSL No.52 Lipstick, £25
Did you hear the story about YSL’s No.52? Jun Ji Hyun, a sweetheart to the nation of Korea, wore Rouge Pur Couture in No.52 (a very bright coral) in the hit film My Love from Another Star. ALL of Korea, and, indeed, the world, went out and bought it, causing a worldwide sell out for the best part of six months. When it finally came into stock a few weeks ago I went over to see what all of the fuss was about and ended up having to have it too. As far as coral lips go, this is the closest you’ll get to neon without looking gaudy. It’s a real wild card and a brilliant one at that.

Everything else…
And the rest? I still can’t find a lovelier on-the-go lip balm than the Origins Drink Up balm, although everything from that range is simply divine. For a gloss to top everything off it’s always NARS Orgasm, a pink/peach/gold shimmer to finish any lip perfectly. And when all is said and done, my lips never go a night without a buffing of Eight Hour Cream from Elizabeth Arden.

Orgasm NARS

In the words of Charlotte Tilbury… give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world!
