Gifts for when money is no object

One of the things I love about Christmas is that beauty brands love to create gifts that are above and beyond, swept up in the magic of the festive season.

Whether it’s a spin on a classic – Creme de la Mer’s Swarovski encrusted lip balm, for example – or a total remortgage the house vibe – a Salvatore Feragamo perfume for over £26,000 – I love the way that beauty brands use their imaginations to evoke the magic of Christmas.

Here are some of the things I’ve found this year that I would definitely be asking for if I had married a millionaire…

Liberty Print Christmas Beauty Advent Calendar, £149 from Liberty of London
We’ve seen so many incredible beauty advent calendars this year, but for me Selfridges (now sold out) and Liberty were by far the best. With Liberty, every day of December you can count down to Christmas with treats from brands like Hourglass, Aromatherapy Associates, REN, NARS, Dr. Sebagh… frankly, you’ll hardly need a Christmas present by the end of it all!

Yves Saint Laurent La Laque Nail Varnish Collection, £405 from Selfridges
From cool browns to hot pinks and even an emerald green, YSL have got every manicure eventuality covered in this 24-piece collection. You’re saving £39 on the cost of buying each shade individually, but really the luxury lies in having this beautiful case to display them in.

Estee Lauder Beautiful Harrods Christmas Bear Perfume Compact, £185 from Harrods
There is something so quintessentially British about this little solid perfume from Estee Lauder. You can imagine this golden bear sitting courtly in the jewellery box of a little old lady one day, being passed to an excitable grandchild. For those of us with humbler budgets, a more appropriate variation would be the Estee Lauder Zodiac compact, a golden palette containing refillable face powder and in a unique design for each sign of the zodiac.

Tom Ford Trousseau, £925 from Selfridges
Of all of the extravagant gifts I’ve seen this year, this is the one I would most love to open. Tom Ford has compiled the ultimate edit of his iconic products, featuring colour shades to suit every recipient and customisable base shades. My Tom Ford make-up items are few but I always find that I get so many compliments on days that I’m wearing a wash of True Coral or the Cocoa Mirage palette; something about his products just looks expensive and unequivocally luxury.

Deborah Lippmann 15th Anniversary Music Box, £225 from Harrods
When my friend Gina showed this box to me a few weeks ago, I have to admit that it really stole my heart. This lovely glossy case is house to 15 Deborah Lippmann nail varnish shades, each named after songs that Deborah holds dear to her. When you open the box, it sings an old fashioned carol to you like a black and white movie might. But the best bit? It’s Deborah herself who is singing to you! She hasn’t been in the UK for a very long time so this would be a special present for any nail enthusiast.

NARS The Vault, £330 from Selfridges
Can you imagine the sheer excitement of opening this on Christmas morning? I feel as though this is one of the sensibler extravagant gifts this year because actually you’re likely to use everything in the case. The NARS Vault is home to 10 nail varnish and 10 lipstick shades, each in classic hues that will work well on women of all ages and skin tones. NARS execute colour wonderfully and I think the only concern that any recipient may have would be which shade combination to go for first.
