A rich, hydrating regime

This Christmas, I got a huge reality check as to how much your skin can be affected by your diet.

A few glasses of wine here and there and a fondness for working brie into all main meals and all of a sudden I was dealing with a ruddy, dry complexion. This January, here are the items I’ve been using to get my complexion looking and feeling calm again…

RMK Cleansing Balm, £29.00
I’ve spoken about this balm many times as it is one of the best things I’ve ever used. Essentially it’s a lovely rosy balm that melts away all of your make-up and cleanses your face in one fell swoop. Apply the balm to a dry, fully made-up face (or bare skin if you don’t wear any) and as you massage it in it will melt to a lovely, rich oil. For me the damask rose in this is brilliant because I’m prone to redness and this really calms my skin.

Pixi Glow Tonic, £18.00
Glow Tonic is a liquid exfoliant but a gentle one. I use this on a cotton pad every day and it really keeps my skin bright and clear. It took me a while to get used to it – at first I wasn’t sure it was doing much – but once I gave it some time I saw such a huge difference and continue to see it now. Give this a go and be patient with it.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir, £11.50
As per a recommendation from Caroline Hirons, I’m now layering a facial mist between skincare steps. My skin has been perpetually dry after a few weeks of working in air-con every day, drinking wine and eating anything savoury I could get my hands on. My favourite mist is always the Beauty Elixir because it leaves my skin feeling fresh and the heady scent does wonders to calm a busy mind.

Zelens Youth Concentrate Supreme Age Defying Serum, £155
You can always guarantee that something from my bedtime regime is going to be from Zelens. What can I say? Everything from Dr. Lens works wonders and my skin has never been better than when I discovered his range. At the moment his serum is my go to for plump, radiant skin. I’m aware that it costs a huge chunk of a monthly mortgage payment but I promise you, it works.

Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream, £32.00
The Bobbi Brown team at Selfridges in Birmingham are really special. Kay, the counter manager, has recently won a Bobbi Brown award for being the best counter manager in the UK! So when they all flocked together to tell me that I needed to try this cream, I put it to the top of my list. It is so creamy so it feels lovely when you massage it in. It’s rich enough to keep your skin plump and bright but it isn’t too heavy for use under make-up. I’ve only used this for a week or so and already the skin around my eyes is less sullen.

Caudalie Polyphenol C15 Overnight Detox Oil, £29.00
I’m not entirely sure that I believe in the detoxifying skincare, but detox or not this oil has worked wonders for hydrating my skin. I’ve used a few small drops all over the face, applying a little extra around the nose to combat the effect of constantly wiping my nose (!) and by morning my skin is noticeably plumper. As always with Caudalie, it smells amazing and delivers in record time.

Ole Henriksen Truth Creme Advanced Hydration, £47
Everyone needs to try this cream. Ole Henriksen has become a staple to our whole household because his products are just does-what-it-says-on-the-tin goodness. This hydration cream is especially brilliant at perking up hungover skin. A very light, runny formula, this melts into the skin and the zesty scent leaves you feeling fresh and clean. Your skin will look better from your first try and feel much better after a week of continued use. Me, mom and dad are all using this twice daily at the moment!
