Twinkling of candles and romance of nightfall

Contouring is one of those trends that didn't hugely resonate with me, largely because I have a naturally round face and there is absolutely no point in me trying to contour. But strobing, on the other hand, is a beauty trend I have welcomed with open arms because I think that glowing, dewy skin is simply timeless and beautiful on everyone.

If you haven’t seen it all over Instagram already, strobing is a way of illuminating your base so that your skin is really healthy and glowy. Rather than using light and dark shades to add depth and shape to your skin, you simply use lots of illuminator to pick out the fuller parts of your face. For some examples of this, take a look at this blog post I wrote last week outlining a step by step guide to achieving a strobed skin look.

Illamasqua Skin Base

When it comes to glowing skin, few do it as well as Laura Mercier. Alongside having a range of some of the few primers I can actually get on board with, she covers every base from the light and fresh Tinted Moisturiser to the full and flawless Silk Creme Foundation.

This autumn, Laura has released a Candleglow collection which features a Luminizing Palette, £45, dedicated entirely to illuminating (or strobing) the skin.

There are two large skin highlighter shades, peachy Radiance and golden Glimmer, which are undoubtedly the most divine of the lot. These come out in a really pigmented finish and still feel light and soft on the skin.

Then there are four smaller shadow shades. Now these are slightly more glittery in finish and not quite as velvety, but actually these would work just as well as illuminator shades. Even if you weren’t using these all over the skin, they would work wonderfully to pick out smaller accents like the inner corners of the eyes or the cupid’s bow.

To finish the collection are three gloss shades, each smelling divine and offering a high gloss, high glitter finish, perfect to compliment glowing skin.

Laura Mercier’s Candleglow Collection is available now from Selfridges.
