How to achieve glowing, luminous skin

I think my favourite foundation of all time could be Illamasqua's Skin Base.

Skin Base is everything that I want in a foundation. The coverage is medium but you can build it to full. There’s no SPF in there so it photographs beautifully. And the finish is dewy without being sticky; this is simply flawless, airbrushed skin in a bottle. I wear it most days.

Although lots of people think of Illamasqua as a theatrical make-up brand, they couldn’t be more brilliant at a natural, fresh skin look. I wanted to show some of their core products so here’s a make-up look I did on my friend Jane using all Illamasqua.

Illamasqua Skin Base

First of all I did her eyes using some products from the new Earth collection. Using the Nomadic palette I took the matte grey thorough her socket, the shimmer grey all over her lid and under the lash line, and then took pigment in Ara in the corners of her eyes. To line I used the new Illustator Pen which is a crisp, jet black felt tip and is one of the thinnest, most precise liners I’ve tried. Then we set everything off with lots of mascara and some Ardell Demi Wispie lashes.

Next we did Jane’s base. To prep her skin I used Hydra Veil, a hydrating jelly that your skin essentially drinks up and then leaves you with a smooth, even canvas for your base. Hydra Veil will cling to any dry patches in your skin so that your foundation can go on evenly. It’s an absolute must-have for hungover skin. Next I buffed Skin Base shade no.9 all over her skin, and used Skin Base Lift concealer in Light 1 around her eyes. To set everything in place I lightly dusted Translucent Powder all over.

Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Furore

I didn’t want to contour heavily but I did want to pick out Jane’s features, so I took some Lumos from the Sculpting Palette and swept a gentle C shape from her temples to under her cheekbones. Next, I took Naked Rose blusher all over her cheeks and then added a pop of the much brighter blusher in Tremble just to the apples of her cheeks. On the lips, I used Colouring Pencil in Fantasy and then some lipstick in Bare.

And then for the finishing touch. Pure Pigment in Furore is one of the best ever Illamasqua products. This champagne coloured pigment is very shimmery and has a tiny hint of glitter in it, giving an amazing luminosity to the skin. I used a fluffy brush to buff this onto Jane’s cheekbones, down her nose, on her chin, a little on the centre of the forehead and all over her lips and cupid’s bow. This took her skin from fresh to glowing and amazing.

There you have it! Who would have known that the most theatrical make-up brand on the market is actually home to the freshest most delicate skin too…
