Scrubs, peels and more

This spring I've been trying a selection of new face masks to keep my skin looking bright and luminous. Here are a few worth looking out for.

Best for glow
Ole Henriksen Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask, £38
You’ll know if you read my blog a lot that I am absolutely obsessed with Ole Henriksen. Lots of my skincare staples are from him and I find that his skincare works quickly and effectively for a really great price. His latest mask works in two ways. The fruits in the formula will gently resurface the skin when first applied, then the grainy sugar and seeds will physically buff and polish the skin when removed. Apply for 10 minutes to cleansed skin and then add warm water to buff and remove the mask.

Best for user experience and a deep clean
Jorgobe Black Peel Off Mask, £22
Imagine applying a layer of black tar to your skin – that’s what this looks like! Completely true to the black patent bottle, this face mask is jet black and dries to a tight, plastic finish. Ideal for anyone that wants a really deep, thorough cleanse, this will cling to your skin and peels off in one strip, taking any dead skin with it and reducing the appearance of pores. The smell is quite strong and medicinal which I love. And there is nothing more pleasing than peeling this off in one fell swoop. A word of advice – don’t get this anywhere near hair. It will pull it out on removal.

Best for party girls
Estee Lauder Nightwear Plus 3 Minute Detox Mask, £32
A light clay mask, this is so quick and easy to use. Designed to draw out impurities and toxins from the skin, I love using this after a big night out. Use at bedtime to clarify the skin and allow the rest of your skincare to absorb quickly and effectively. Or if you need an instant skin brightening treatment, use this in the morning. Apply before you brush your teeth and by the time you’ve done that you’ll be ready to remove it. It will instantly brighten a sullen, tired complexion.

Best for classic clay lovers
Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque, coming soon
Just what you think of when you imagine a classic face mask, this new clay mask from Dermalogica is a fail safe option for anyone that needs a new face mask. Designed to draw out toxins and impurities, this will leave your skin bright and refreshed. What I found with this compared to other clay masks is that it doesn’t have the drying effect that lots of clays can have. Also, I can sometimes find my skin quite red after a clay mask, but this left my skin calm and clear. I felt the difference straight away, this is a great mask.

My favourite
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask, £23
This isn’t new, but I couldn’t run through masks without mentioning my all time favourite Origins Drink Up mask. Unlike other masks, this one is designed to be slept in and leaves your skin plump, hydrated and soft by morning. I took this on holiday recently and applied it for my long haul flight, and every evening that I’d had a drink. If you’ve had a few cocktails and you sleep in this, you can’t tell by morning, your skin is as radiant and bright as if you’d had 8 hours sleep. Dry skins, party girls and new moms are going to love this because it does so much hard work when you sleep. And the smell, it should be noted, is delicious and fruity.
