Discovering the Hydra Floral Everfresh range

Last week, I went to Paris with Decleor to explore the city that the brand was born from and learn about some of their newest launches.

To begin our journey, we took the Eurostar from London to Paris for my first time ever. When we arrived, we checked into the gothic Les Bains hotel. This was one of the loveliest hotels I’ve ever stayed in. It was quite masculine and heavy, with the logo being a stern bearded man. From dark, mysterious rooms downstairs to fresh mint green bedrooms with enormous balconies, it was a total adventure to explore.

To begin our immersion into Decleor, we took to a beautiful lunch with some of their team. Fiona was there, their QVC host and director of Education for the brand, and I was so delighted to meet her because she is one of my QVC faves! Also joining us was facialist Nichola Joss, someone I’ve heard of countless times since being in beauty but never actually met until now. Nichola is known for being the long-serving facialist to some of the most famous names in the world, including Princess to be Meghan Markle. I loved meeting her and through the course of the trip I learned so many tips from her. She has a very alternative approach to skincare, with lots of emphasis on inner wellness as an important factor to outward beauty.

Decleor began to tell us about the research they’ve been doing into the impact that pollution can have on the skin, something they say is not being discussed enough within the industry. Teaming pollution with sun damage is causing skin to age prematurely and is an invisible aggressor to the skin, one that we don’t see or feel. This in mind, they’ve created a new Hydra Floral Everfresh range to ensure that skin is thoroughly protected from the pressures of pollution.

Within the Hydra Floral Everfresh range, the key plant is called scutellaria baicalensis, sourced from China. Why this is such a powerful component is that this plant is exposed to harsh city environments in China, and yet still continues to flourish and grow. The same principle applies to how this can work to protect your skin in harsh environments.

First up for discussion was the Hydra Floral Everfresh cream. Despite being comprised of 98% natural ingredients, this is fairly light in texture which is usually a combination that is difficult to find. This melts gently into the skin but still gives the richness that we have come to expect from Decleor.

Next was the Hydra Floral Everfresh eye cream, my favourite of the two. This gel-like eye treatment instantly cools and calms the eye area, great for someone like me who wears contact lenses and suffers from hay fever so likes to use a soothing eye treatment. What I love about this is that the texture is so light, you can even press gently on top of your make-up half way through the day to revive any dryness and give an energy boost.

After a few hours exploring the city, we went to Cabine for dinner. Everywhere we turned in the day we found something beautiful, I followed these little floral stairs out of curiosity and found myself in this little boho haven. They had a private event so I couldn’t stay, but from what I could see it looked like a Batiste press launch. Trust me to find the beauty party!

Cabine was the loveliest restaurant with no menu. Instead, you eat their best catches of the day and enjoy an entirely seasonal menu. All of our food was presented on big sharing plates so you could just scoop up all of your favourite things, from starter to main and dessert. In addition, they served delicious house wines and your glass was barely half devoured before it was filled again. Beautiful service and such a lovely, quaint restaurant.

Bedtime was one of my favourite parts of the day, for two reasons. The weather was scorching, so I opened my patio doors and blasted the La La Land soundtrack while I got ready for bed. And secondly, I arrived to my bathroom to find that Decleor had beaten me to it, laying out an entire bedtime routine for me to dive into and enjoy.

The next day, we did the unimaginable and went to the L’Oreal Paris laboratories to MAKE OUR OWN DECLEOR AROMESSENCE! What a dream come true, I couldn’t believe it. We didn’t know we were going to be doing this, it was the most amazing surprise.

Decleor lab technicians had laid out a series of oils for us to use and experiment with, giving us the freedom to create our own blends to suit our own desires and skin types. I blended a rich, hydrating oil using an initial mixture comprised of 20% Avocado Oil, 30% Jojoba Oil and 50% Hazlenut Oil, all melted into a Neroli Oil base. We have to wait for 10 days for a toxicologist to confirm that each of our blends are safe for use on the skin, and then they’re ours forever! We even got to meet Salonge herself, the founder of Decleor.

Having worked up an appetite at this point, we went to meet Angele Ferreux-Maeght of La Guinguette d’Angele. Angele owns her own gluten free restaurants in Paris and also caters for lots of private clients. During Paris Fashion Week, some of the most esteemed houses including Chanel and Louis Vuitton will have her prepare their cuisine and keep the team fuelled on healthy, sustaining meals.

Angele’s kitchen was just exquisite. It was the perfect mix of clean and tidy but lived in and homely, for example with neatly stacked shelves home to pots and pans and glassware of all shapes and sizes thrown happily together. Her shelves were lined with tiny lantern lights, and the doors opened onto a beautiful courtyard, part dining area, part garden and home to herbs growing to eat from scratch.

Angele taught us about the power of some of nature’s finest ingredients, first having us take a taste test and blindly identify a series of little bowls that she had prepared for us. One of my favourite tips of hers involved horseradish. She advised that if we take a horseradish, scoop out the middle, put a drop of honey in it and fill it with water, when left overnight it will make a delicious nutritious drink by morning. If you do these each day, by the end of the week you’ll have drank most of the horseradish (it kind of absorbs into the water) and you will be full of all kinds of amazing goodness. Giving this a try this week!

After a delicious lunch that we made from scratch with Angele, I visited the Decleor boutique in Paris for a facial with Laura, one of their specialists. Fiona and Nichola have worked together to share techniques and create the ultimate pollution-busting facial. The Hydra Floral Moisture Shield Anti-Pollution facial launches in June, focusing on lymphatic drainage to ensure toxins are flushed from the lymph nodes and out of the body.

Interestingly, the facial begins with a back diagnosis. A ten-minute massage of the back can tell your facialist all kinds of things about what is going on in your body, which can explain a little of what is happening to your skin. For example, Laura could tell I’d had a couple for glasses of wine the night before (which was contributing to a rosacea flare up) and that I was a little hormonal within my cycle (explaining a few little blemishes around my jaw line).

The facial was so relaxing and I am naturally a really heavy snorer, so unfortunately poor Laura was terrorised for most of the facial to my complete oblivion. Once I was ready to battle the elements it was home time, and we all laughed the whole way home on the Eurostar again. We were welcomed home by these lovely words from Tracey Emin: I want my time with you. I just googled this to check that it was her, and it was only installed 13 days ago! All the more special to have seen it on my first journey with them.

Thank you Decleor for a trip to remember with lots learned and new friends made! One of my favourite ever experiences in the 8 years of having my blog. I absolutely loved every minute.
