For brighter, more luminous skin

Vitamin C is one of the hot topics in beauty at the moment, and especially now that the weather has been warmer so many of us are looking for solutions to the onset of sunspots.

Whether you want to achieve brighter skin, protect from the harmful damage of living in a polluted city or alleviate sun damage, here are a few of my favourite finds using nature’s finest ingredient…

Rodial Vit C Brightening Cleanser, £39

A light, gel texture cleanser, this is packed with Vitamin C and fruit acids to gently exfoliate the skin. I’d recommend using something else first to thoroughly remove make-up, maybe an oil or a balm, and then using this as your second cleanse to let these active ingredients get to work. Used twice daily this encourages brighter skin, but if your skin is more sensitive I’d limit use to twice per week.

Rodial Vit C Brightening Mask, £65

A similarly light, gel texture, this mask is designed for use once or twice a week for a more intensive treatment. Containing 5% Vitamin C and 10% fruit, glycolic and lactic acids, this mask ticks a number of boxes: brightens, cleanses, gently exfoliates and helps to tighten the appearance of pores. This is a great instant option if you want to look more radiant for a special occasion.

Rodial Vit C Brightening Cleansing Pads, £45 for 50

Ignore the name of these pads. Cleansing is definitely not what you want to use them for; instead, use them after cleansing to gently brighten and exfoliate the skin. Gentle enough for use twice daily, these encourage regular use of Vitamin C at a lower potency. They’re ideal for anyone who needs a quick, simple routine and wants to tick all of the necessary boxes. For more noticeable results, I would recommend the Brightening Mask more so than these pads.

Sunday Riley Vitamin C Set, £50

CEO Rapid Flash Brightening Serum

A rich, creamy formula, this is the most potent skincare piece in this entire list. Used twice a day, this will significantly reduce the appearance of dark spots and brighten the complexion. This serum can be layered into your current routine to add a hit of Vitamin C, rather than needing to overhaul the entire process.

CEO C + E Micro-Dissolve Cleansing Oil

I’ve become really invested in using skincare to protect from pollution because it’s a hot topic in the industry at the moment. Lots of skincare houses are delving into the impact of pollution and educating us bloggers and journalists when we go to beauty launches. So for me, this cleanser is a great option for anyone living in a busy city, because it actively targets the removal of damaging micro-particles imparted by pollution. The consistency is a very slippery oil, soft and ideal for breaking down both make-up and small pollution particles. For the love of God, don’t let this get anywhere near your eyes though! The sting is real.

CEO Protect and Repair Moisturiser

Smelling sweet and packing a punch, the Protect and Repair Moisturiser offers day-long hydration along with the brightening and protective properties of everything else in the Vitamin C range.

Clinique Fresh Pressed 7-Day System with Pure Vitamin C, £25

If you’ve got a special occasion coming up, this week-long intensive treatment will give you noticeable results in record time. Clinique have created this treatment for use to significantly brighten the skin, however it can be used for as long a period as you would like as it is safe for daily use. Vitamin C naturally degrades (for us: becomes less powerful) when it is exposed to oxygen, so Clinique’s system is created in such a way that their pure Vitamin C is contained in a vial that will keep it fresh just for that one week of continued use.

At 10% pure Vitamin C, the potency of this formula is high. First, you use a cleansing sachet to clean the skin. Next, you mix a couple of drops of the Vitamin C into your day and night cream. After one week, the result is a much brighter, firmer and more luminous complexion.

Whichever Vitamin C option you choose to implement, remember that this is going to help to purify and resurface the skin and as a result you’ll need to ensure that you are always using an SPF during the day.
