Let’s recap for a moment because I want to set the scene…
The WANTED palette was an expertly-curated edit of burnt matte, satin and shimmer shades, perfect for creating a witchy smoky eye to make every eye colour pop.
The Highlighting Powders were sheer, pigmented and gave the skin a balmy, airbrushed glow.
And then, of course, there is Climax Mascara. I’m really not the kind of person to be excited by mascara because nine times out of ten I wear false eyelashes, but the hype around Climax is well deserved. Lashes are separated, lengthened and volumized in one fell swoop.
When the fashion week coverage started coming through on Instagram this month, I noticed many a bright NARS quad among the show essentials. Lucky me, before I knew it, they were in my possession and I started to get to work. What I found was yet more genius from NARS in expertly curated form.
Here are the eye launches that you need to know about this autumn…
Eyeshadow
What makes NARS eyeshadows stand out is that they come in a variety of textures. From buttery mattes to pigmented shimmers, NARS pair contrasting textures well so that you have all of the ingredients to make a perfect smoky eye. I always use matte shades on the outer edges of my smoky eyes and save shimmer or glitter for the very centres of the lids.
Eyeshadow Singles (£16) and Duos (£24)
Surabaya: use this warm, coppery-brown duo to make every eye colour pop
St Paul de Vence: use this soft, rose golden duo to create a polished and brightening eye make-up look
Kalahari: use these cool, taupey-golden shades for an effortless smoky look that doesn’t stand out too much either way but simply adds depth and smoulder to the eyes
Quad Eyeshadows, £40
Pulp Fiction (LOVE this name): if you dare to delve into violet, this is a rich, pigmented and easy to blend palette. Love the boldness of some of the colours in these quads
Mahe: or if you’d prefer more of an everyday staple, Mahe is effortlessly polished and chic. You could use this every day to simply enhance the areas of light and shade in your eyes
Tinted Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, £20 (great value because this lasts a very long time – a tiny bit goes a really long way)
NARS’ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base has been a staple of mine for years. It is completely invisible, feather light in texture, and locks your eye make-up in place all day. Now, NARS have created four tinted versions of their icon which will neutralise and brighten the eyes before eyeshadow application.
Brow Perfectors, £20 each
For me, a brilliant brow product was all that was missing from the NARS repertoire, so I am delighted to announce that it is finally here. These Brow Perfectors are skinny wands that add hair-like strokes to the brows, helping to build anything from a natural brushed brow look to a full sculpted arch. A word of warning, have a play with a few shades. From those that I’ve tried, names are a little misleading and you might find yourself drawn to something you wouldn’t necessarily have imagined. For example, with blonde hair and mousey roots, I was surprised to find that Moanda (Auburn Warm) was a great match for me.
So many gorgeous new arrivals to get excited about. I’ll post some looks to my Instagram page @MixedGemsBeauty in the coming weeks so that I can talk you through how I’m using these.
